About Jim Moss
Co-Founder, Work Better Institute & Expert in Trust, Leadership, and Community Well-Being
Trust, Leadership, and Community Well-Being
Jim Moss is my long-time collaborator, husband, and co-founder of the Work Better Institute. Our work together has taken us from research labs to boardrooms to the cover of Canadian Business Magazine, where we were named Innovators of the Year for advancing new ways of thinking about workplace culture, trust, and well-being.
For over a decade, Jim and I have combined our expertise — his in relational trust and caring leadership, mine in burnout and organizational culture — to help leaders build healthier, more resilient workplaces. I’m thrilled to introduce him here.
Jim and Jen have been doing this work for over 12 years

Jim Moss Bio
Jim Moss is a trusted voice in workplace leadership, team culture, and community well-being. With more than 12 years of experience researching and advising organizations across North America, he specializes in relational trust — the trust built through caring, careful, and consistent leadership.
Jim began his work in organizational well-being as co-founder of Plasticity Labs, where he helped pioneer data-driven tools to measure happiness and resilience at work. His work earned Plasticity the Innovators of the Year award from Canadian Business Magazine. Later, he co-founded YMCA Work-Well to advance research on belonging, trust, and employee experience in partnership with Dr. Dave Whiteside.
Before his career in leadership and well-being, Jim was a professional athlete representing Team Canada in three sports, winning multiple world championships and earning induction into the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame, Brampton Sports Hall of Fame, and California Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
Jim’s life took a dramatic turn in 2009 when he developed Guillain-Barré Syndrome, a rare autoimmune disorder that ended his athletic career and reshaped his purpose. His recovery sparked a decade-long commitment to understanding the psychological, social, and cultural factors that allow individuals and communities to thrive.
Today, Jim’s research focuses on how relational trust is built — and broken — inside teams and organizations. His Caring / Careful / Careless leadership framework is used by leaders across industries to improve decision-making, increase engagement, strengthen relationships, and reduce burnout risks.
Together, Jennifer Moss and Jim Moss are co-founding the Work Better Institute, a collaborative education and research initiative dedicated to building healthier cultures through evidence-based trust, well-being, and performance strategies.
Jim’s work blends research, lived experience, practical tools, and relatable storytelling — helping leaders see clearly, act intentionally, and strengthen the communities they serve.
